Love Adversity

Yesterday I had a discussion with my younger son, Tate, about how his school was going. He was having a hard time in his literature class and a bit upset by the whole assignment at hand. I have to say i got to love that he has such strong feelings about his grades but this went a bit deeper in the fact that he doesn’t like thing when they are hard. Of course, who blames him… I think all of us have the same feelings. That’s why we gravitate towards things that we are good at… not things the other way around.

I explained to him about adversity. Life is not always going to be easy and we are going to encounter some bumpy time every so often. It’s the adversity and how we handle it that defines us as a person. I always loved that concept because it allows us to go through the hard time with our head up high. If we do we’ll feel better and end up happier.

This comes on the coat tails of Martin Luther King day. A man who was the walking example of adversity and going through it with grace and composure. He led by peace and tolerance and forced a nation to change. A concept we could all stand to grasp a bit better.

Love Adversity, Love Change… it will help you live graciously in life.
